A new international poll shows overwhelming global support for Greenland and the democratic principle that Greenlanders should decide their own future.

The Democracy Perception Index, based on responses from more than 94,000 people across 98 countries, found that majorities in 85 countries support Greenland and Denmark in the dispute over Greenland’s future.

Only two countries showed majority support for the United States.

The results highlight a rare global consensus. While international opinion is often divided on major geopolitical issues, support for Greenland’s right to self-determination stands out as remarkably strong.
Political experts say many countries see the issue as a matter of democratic principles and respect for smaller nations.

For many around the world, the question is simple: Greenland’s future must be decided by Greenlanders themselves; not by outside powers.

The poll also reflects growing international respect for stable democracies, international law, and the right of peoples to determine their own political future.

“At a time of increasing geopolitical tension, the message from the world appears clear: Greenland’s voice matters, and its right to choose its own path should be respected.”
