Here you can read about how Support Greenland (hereinafter “we”, “us” and “our”) collects and processes personal data on our website supportgreenland.org.

Support Greenland is an international solidarity movement working to inform and mobilize civil society in support of Greenland’s right to self-determination. This privacy policy describes how and why we collect personal data about you, how the data is used, when it is deleted, and how you can access your own personal data.

3. How Do We Process Personal Data?

We collect and process personal data in a number of different situations. Each activity is described separately below.

 

3.1 When You Visit Our Website

What data is processed and where does it come from?
Our website is built on WordPress and uses W3 Total Cache to optimize site speed and Bunny CDN (Content Delivery Network) to deliver content efficiently to visitors worldwide.

We collect basic technical information about visitors to the website, including:

  • IP addresses (temporarily, for server logging and CDN delivery)
  • Browser type and version
  • Visit time
  • Pages visited on the website
  • Geographic location (country level, derived from IP address for CDN routing)

We only use technically necessary cookies to ensure the website’s functionality and speed. We do not use marketing cookies or tracking tools for analytics purposes.

Why is the data processed?
We process this data to:

  • Ensure the website’s technical functionality and security
  • Protect against abuse and cyber attacks
  • Optimize site performance and loading speed
  • Deliver content efficiently through geographically distributed servers

What is the legal basis for processing?
The legal basis for processing is Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on legitimate interests. Our legitimate interest is to operate a secure and functional website with optimal performance for all visitors.

Who is the data shared with?
The data is shared with:

  • Our hosting provider, who acts as our data processor
  • Bunny CDN (bunny.net), a Slovenian CDN provider that is GDPR-compliant and stores data within the EU/EEA

Both parties act as data processors under data processing agreements.

How long is the data retained?
Server log files are retained for up to 90 days for security reasons, after which they are automatically deleted. Bunny CDN retains logs for up to 48 hours for technical and security purposes.

 

3.2 When You Subscribe to Our Newsletter

What data is processed and where does it come from?
When you subscribe to our newsletter via RapidMail, we process the following personal data that you provide yourself:

  • Email address
  • Time of subscription
  • Information about opening and clicking in newsletters (statistics)

Why is the data processed?
We process your personal data for the following purposes:

  • Sending newsletters with information about Greenland’s self-determination and Support Greenland’s activities
  • Statistics on newsletter effectiveness (number of opens, clicks, etc.)
  • Technical administration of the newsletter list

What is the legal basis for processing?
The legal basis for processing is Article 6(1)(a) of GDPR on consent. By subscribing to the newsletter, you give your consent for us to send you information via email. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing via the link at the bottom of each newsletter email or by contacting us directly.

Who is the data shared with?
Your data is processed via RapidMail, which is our data processor for newsletter distribution. RapidMail is a German service that is GDPR-compliant, and your data is stored within the EU.

How long is the data retained?
Your personal data is retained as long as you are subscribed to our newsletter.

Upon unsubscription, your data is deleted from the active newsletter list immediately. However, we retain documentation of your previous consent for 2 years after unsubscription in accordance with Danish Consumer Ombudsman practice and for documentation purposes.

 

3.3 When You Contact Us via Email

What data is processed and where does it come from?
When you contact us via email (hello@supportgreenland.org or other specified email addresses), we process the following personal data that you provide yourself:

  • Email address
  • Name (if you provide it)
  • Content of your inquiry
  • Any other information you choose to share with us

We use Proton Mail to receive and handle email inquiries.

Why is the data processed?
We process your data for the following purposes:

  • Responding to your inquiry
  • General communication about Support Greenland’s work
  • Possible follow-up on your inquiry

What is the legal basis for processing?
The legal basis for processing is Article 6(1)(f) of GDPR on legitimate interests. Our legitimate interest is to be able to communicate with people who contact us and respond to inquiries about our work.

Who is the data shared with?
Your emails are stored in Proton Mail, which is a Swiss end-to-end encrypted email service. Proton Mail acts as data processor and is subject to Swiss data protection law, which is recognized as adequate by the EU Commission.

The data is not shared with others unless necessary to respond to your specific inquiry.

How long is the data retained?
Email correspondence is retained for up to 2 years after receipt, after which it is reviewed and deleted, unless there is a specific need to retain it longer (e.g., ongoing dialogue or documentation purposes).

 

4. Your Rights

You have the right at any time to exercise your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right of access: You have the right to access the data we process about you.
  • Right to rectification: If you believe that the data we process about you is inaccurate or incorrect, you have the right to have it corrected.
  • Right to erasure: You have the right to have data about you deleted if we do not have a legal basis to retain it.
  • Right to restriction of processing: You can request that the processing of your personal data be restricted until any disputes about the processing are resolved.
  • Right to data portability: You have the right to receive a copy of the personal data you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.
  • Right to object: You have the right to object to our processing of data about you when the processing is based on legitimate interests.
