About

Support Greenland mobilises people and organisations around the world to stand with the people of Greenland in defence of their right to self-determination.

How we support Greenland

What we do
Support Greenland coordinates peaceful advocacy, public mobilisation, and international awareness campaigns to amplify Greenlanders’ voices in the global debate.

What we don’t do
We do not speak for Greenland or advocate for any specific political outcome beyond the right of the Greenlandic people to decide for their own future.

Our three principles

Self-determination
Only the people of Greenland can decide Greenland’s future.

Respect for international law
No nation may threaten or use force against another’s sovereignty. This principle protects every country and territory – including yours.

Democratic legitimacy
Greenland has a functioning democracy. The voices of its elected representatives and people must be respected.

Houses In Upernavik

All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.

This is not just about Greenland

It is a test of whether the fundamental principles our modern world is built upon still hold: that people have the right to determine their own future, that borders cannot be changed by threats or force, and that democracy matters.

If these principles can be dismissed for Greenland, they can be dismissed anywhere. For any small nation. For any people who lack the power to defend themselves alone.

This is about the rules and laws protecting all small nations.
About democracy and the right to self-determination.
It’s a question of what kind of world we want to live in.

Your voice matters.

Background

Support Greenland emerged from a moment of global crisis – and collective action. On 17 January 2025, as American senators visited Denmark and threats against Greenland’s sovereignty intensified, thousands of people took to the streets in many cities.

Organised by civil society organisations including Uagut – the National Organisation for Greenlanders in Denmark, Inuit DK, and the citizen initiative ‘Hands Off Kalaallit Nunaat’, in cooperation with ActionAid Denmark, these demonstrations sent an unmistakable message: Greenland is not for sale, and the world is watching.

The images of Greenlandic flags waving in cities across Greenland, Denmark and other cities around the world, handwritten signs declaring solidarity, and thousands standing together in the freezing cold reminded the world that fundamental principles – self-determination, sovereignty, and democratic legitimacy – are worth defending. Within days, military threats and tariffs were withdrawn. It worked. But the fight for these principles doesn’t end here.

Support Greenland was founded to sustain this movement, coordinate international solidarity, and ensure that Greenlanders will never be alone in defending their right to determine their own future.
