Visitors to Copenhagen can now explore the shared history of Greenland and Denmark from the water. A new audio-guided route by Stromma takes passengers through stories of trade, history, culture, people and the ties that continue to connect Greenland and Denmark today.

During the one-hour canal tour, passengers encounter the history of Kalaallit Nunaat and Denmark through the places and traces that can still be seen along Copenhagen’s harbour and canals.

“The Greenland Route – The Story of Kalaallit Nunaat and Denmark Told from the Canals” launched by Stromma in partnership with Support Greenland and ActionAid Denmark on 9 August 2026, the UN International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

The launch coincided with the Kayak Parade for Greenland, which brought Greenlandic flags, music, speeches and culture to Copenhagen Harbour.

The script for the new audio guide was written by Ivalo Olsvig, who holds an MA in Greenlandic and Arctic Studies with a specialisation in Museology from the University of Copenhagen.

“I have tried to create a canal tour that is historically well-founded, accessible and engaging for Danish, Greenlandic and international audiences alike. The aim has been to tell the story of the connections between Denmark and Kalaallit Nunaat through people, places and the traces we can still experience in Copenhagen today.”

“When you travel through the harbour, it becomes clear that history does not only exist in books and archives. It is also present in buildings, works of art, monuments, words and small details in the urban landscape – if we know where to look,” says

The audio guide is available through Stromma’s app, City’s Voice, in Greenlandic, Danish and English.
