“Recent events have put Greenland and Greenlanders in both Greenland and Denmark under pressure. Therefore, we now call for unity. When tensions rise and people go into a state of alarm, we risk creating more problems than solutions for ourselves and for each other.”
Uagut – the National Organization for Greenlanders in Denmark, the citizen initiative ‘Hands Off Kalaallit Nunaat’ and Inuit – the Joint Association of Greenlandic Local Associations in Denmark, in cooperation with ActionAid Denmark, are holding demonstrations in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense.
The demonstrations will take place on Saturday, 17 January 2026 in connection with the visit of American senators to Denmark. The purpose is to send a clear and united message about respect for Greenland’s democracy and fundamental human rights.
The events are peaceful and open to everyone who wishes to show solidarity and support.

Aka Hansen (born 1987) is a prominent Inuk filmmaker, writer, and activist from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland). She is a leading voice in the Greenlandic decolonization movement, focusing on themes of identity, gender, and Inuit self-representation.
